1. About These Terms

These Publishing & Royalty Terms explain the general principles that apply when an author submits a book for publication on BooksAfrrik and, where the book is accepted, makes it available as a digital book through the BooksAfrrik marketplace.

These terms should be read together with the BooksAfrrik Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Book Listing Guidelines, and any specific information presented to the author during the publishing process.

2. Digital Publishing Only

BooksAfrrik currently publishes and sells digital books. References to publishing, books, editions, sales and delivery on this page therefore relate to digital books made available through the BooksAfrrik platform.

3. Author Ownership and Rights

Authors retain ownership of the intellectual property rights in their original works, subject to any rights and permissions granted to BooksAfrrik under the applicable publishing arrangement.

Submitting a manuscript to BooksAfrrik does not by itself transfer ownership of the author's copyright to BooksAfrrik.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights, permissions and authority to submit their work for publication and digital distribution.

4. Author-Selected Royalty Share

BooksAfrrik allows the author to choose a royalty share when setting the book's price and publishing arrangement.

The selected royalty share determines the portion of eligible book revenue allocated to the author, while the remaining portion is allocated to BooksAfrrik according to the publishing arrangement selected for the book.

The author should carefully review the available royalty options displayed during the publishing process before confirming the book's price and publication settings.

Authors set the selling price of their digital book as part of the publishing process, subject to the pricing options and requirements available through the BooksAfrrik author platform.

Before completing publication, authors should carefully review the displayed selling price and selected royalty share.

BooksAfrrik provides an ISSN to all digital books that it publishes under its publishing programme.

The ISSN serves as an identification number for the applicable digital publication. Authors should ensure that the title, author information and other publication details supplied during submission are accurate.

8. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality and legality of the material they submit. Authors should:

• Submit work they have the legal right to publish.
• Provide accurate title, author and publication information.
• Ensure that the book description accurately represents the work.
• Obtain permissions for third-party material where required.
• Ensure that the manuscript complies with applicable laws and BooksAfrrik policies.
• Review the book price and royalty share before publication.
• Keep their author account and publishing information accurate.

9. Rights, Permissions and Third-Party Material

Authors must not submit manuscripts containing material they do not have the legal right to publish or make available digitally.

This includes text, photographs, illustrations, artwork, translations, quotations, excerpts and other protected material belonging to another person or organisation.

Where third-party material is used, the author is responsible for obtaining any permissions that may be required and complying with the terms attached to those permissions.

10. Publishing Review

Submitting a manuscript does not guarantee that the book will be published. BooksAfrrik may review submitted work before deciding whether it is suitable for publication on the platform.

BooksAfrrik may require corrections, clarification or additional information before a submission can proceed through the publishing process.

Authors should follow the Book Listing Guidelines when preparing their manuscript and book listing information.

11. Digital Book Sales

When a published digital book is made available for purchase, customers can purchase the digital book through the BooksAfrrik marketplace.

Eligible revenue from sales is allocated according to the royalty arrangement selected for the applicable book and the terms governing the transaction.

Authors should review the applicable royalty arrangement before publishing their book.

12. Changes to Pricing or Royalty Settings

BooksAfrrik may provide authors with tools or procedures for managing book pricing and publishing information.

Where changes are permitted, authors are responsible for reviewing the effect of those changes before confirming them.

Changes may be subject to the book's publication status, platform requirements and other applicable conditions.

Royalty-related information may be made available to authors through the BooksAfrrik author platform or other applicable BooksAfrrik communication channels.

Any payment thresholds, payment schedules, transaction adjustments, applicable deductions, taxes or other payment conditions will be governed by the information and terms applicable to the author's account and publishing arrangement.

Authors are responsible for providing any information required for lawful payment processing and for meeting their own tax or reporting obligations where applicable.

14. Taxes and Author Obligations

Authors may have tax, reporting or other legal obligations arising from income received from their published works. Those obligations can vary depending on the author's location and circumstances.

BooksAfrrik does not provide individual tax, accounting or legal advice. Authors should seek appropriate professional advice where necessary.

15. Removal or Suspension of a Book

BooksAfrrik may remove, restrict or suspend access to a published digital book where this is necessary or appropriate, including where there are concerns involving copyright, intellectual property, applicable law, inaccurate information, platform rules or other legitimate publishing considerations.

Removal or suspension does not automatically transfer ownership of the author's underlying intellectual property to BooksAfrrik.

16. Author Withdrawal

Where BooksAfrrik provides an author with the ability to withdraw or unpublish a book, the author must follow the applicable process through the author platform.

Withdrawal may not immediately affect transactions or rights that have already been completed or granted, and certain records may need to be retained where required by law or legitimate business purposes.

17. No Guarantee of Sales or Income

Publication on BooksAfrrik does not guarantee that a digital book will receive purchases, readership, reviews, rankings or any particular level of income.

Sales and readership can depend on factors including reader interest, book subject, presentation, discoverability, market conditions and other circumstances outside the platform's control.

18. Intellectual Property Complaints

If BooksAfrrik receives a credible complaint concerning copyright, ownership or other intellectual property rights associated with a published book, BooksAfrrik may investigate the matter and take appropriate action under its policies and applicable law.

Authors are responsible for responding appropriately to legitimate rights-related concerns concerning works they have submitted.

BooksAfrrik may update these Publishing & Royalty Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, publishing processes, legal requirements or business practices.
